I was offered a position at the University of New South Wales on August 18. I accepted and will begin working there on September 14. Read on to find out why I've accepted the position!
News & Rumours
News of the moment is that I'm betrothed to my love. His name is Darren Gibbs and we plan to marry on Sunday, April 18, 1999. Needless to say, I'm rather over the moon. I love Darren more than words can express, and that he wishes to spend the remainder of his life with me is both humbling and thrilling.
An announcement was made in The Canberra Times on Saturday, 20 June, 1998, and said:
MAZANOV-SIMPSON - GIBBS
Lynne & George Simpson and Margaret & Reg Gibbs are pleased to announce that Carolyn and Darren are betrothed. For further information, see http://www.zip.com.au/~rynWe've also published it on the 'net through my webpage. I intend putting up all the information about when, where, how, who, and what is going on. Plans keep changing, of course. And I'm quickly discovering that a wedding has a life of its own.
When it rains, it pours...
Yes, its true! Not only am I to be married next year, but I'm also going to graduate! Finally! Carolyn Simpson, BSc (or is that Carolyn Gibbs, BSc, or is it Carolyn Mazanov-Simpson-Gibbs, BSc)!
So. I'll finally be qualified. To do what, I'm not sure Of course, it may just be easier for me to find a job in Sydney, as I'll have to move up there to be with my beloved. GRR! Just when I get a really great permanent job, I meet the guy I'm going to marry, and he lives out of town!!! Typical!
It has been quite an incredible year, all up. Perhaps I shouldn't tempt fate! :)
Canada
Went to Canada in October, 1997. Well, to Prince George, British Columbia, to be a bit more precise, which is about 6 hours drive North of Vancouver. It was an experience. The trees were all the same, the air was cold, and it snowed enough for me to go tobogganing. I had a whale of a time, and enjoyed plenty of Arby's burgers.
My excitement of the trip was losing my passport at Vancouver Airport. It was returned some 9 months later by way of the Australian Consulate in Vancouver. Dealing with beaurocrats overseas was fun, though I must admit, they did a brilliant job of getting me a new passport before I left the country.
I was able to sample a little of the countryside. Vancouver is wet, generally, and icy as winter approaches. There is a substantial amount of Birch, Fir and Spruce trees in BC. I'd love to go back one day and see more of the place.
Overall, the trip taught me one or two things, and enabled me to decide what it is that I wanted to do with myself. Fortunately, when I returned home, I was able to apply for a position to begin my brilliant career! I'm thoroughly enjoying myself in my job at Network Services in the ANU.
End bit...
Well, I waited until I had some news to report this time and am slightly more pleased with the results of this newsletter than the last... Of course, that is kinda dependent on the fact that I am enjoying life at the moment.
I'd like to reiterate that I welcome contact from anyone and everyone. The most immediate way to receive a reply and more regular updates from me is via e-mail and via my web-pages.
So, if you're online, and interested in being in touch, please do send me details. If not, I still enjoy receiving letters and even, on occasion, phone calls. All details are overleaf.
Hope all your dreams are coming true.
Carolyn
